What Was Old, Is Now New
The Imperial Sugar Company is the one of the oldest continuously operating companies in the State of Texas. We trace our roots back to 1843 when the first sugar mill was commissioned in what later became Sugar Land by one of the original 100 families that Stephen F. Austin brought to Texas. Imperial Sugar is a publicly traded corporation (IPSU) with sales of $1 billion and a completely new management team from the board of directors down to most of the VP level in the last three years.
Our branded consumer business is based around the Imperial Sugar brand in Texas and the Dixie Crystals brand in the Southeast. In most of our markets we have the dominant branded share with dollar shares in Texas around 40% and 25% shares in our key Southeastern Dixie Crystals markets. In our core markets our primary competitor is private label. Within the consumer business, the focus is on satisfying the needs of our consumers with premium packaging benefit of more convenience. We are also working to directly and appropriately communicate with our consumers via bi-lingual packaging and regional/ethnic recipes on package.
